Welcome to this new feature column for our campus publication. Each month, I’ll be introducing you to some of the helpful, interesting and fun sites on the Web that you can use to improve your English and find information in English related to your work, studies or interests.
Since I’m new to NTCN, let me take a moment to introduce myself. I’m one of the new English faculty members here, and just prior to my start this semester I was an English instructor at the Chinese University in the continuing education program. I have taught English in Taiwan for over six years and have a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language.
This month, I’ve gathered together some general and specialty dictionary Web resources. This is just a small fraction of all the resources available, and from time-to-time in future columns I’ll be giving you more good dictionary web sites.
What can you find among these online dictionaries? Well, here are just some of the helpful things you can find:
mulitilingual dictionaries
translating features
games
grammar guides
thesaurus
specialty dictionaries (business, tech, etc.)
synonyms
antonyms
crossword puzzles
links to other dictionaries
slang
idioms
Take some time to look over the front page of each site and see what features each has. Follow some of the links and find out more about what kinds of information and activities they have that you need or would enjoy. Look carefully over each page and see if there are any links to other related web sites that you can also look over.
